Postdoc Salary Matching Grant

Call for Proposals

1. Grant Description

The TRSM Postdoc Salary Matching Grant is designed to facilitate and advance research at the Ted Rogers School of Management by supporting high-quality scholarship across its established, emerging, and context-specific research areas. This fund provides a boost or top-up to researchers who already have a guaranteed source of funding but are seeking additional resources to recruit the strongest possible postdoctoral candidate. The aim of the program is to strengthen research capacity, enhance academic output, and contribute to the broader scholarly community.

2. Funding Amount & Eligible Expenses

Grant Amount

  • Up to five(5) matching grants of $30,000 each are available for the 2026 cycle. (For 2027 and beyond, three(3) matching grants of $30,000 will be available each year.)

  • The remaining $30,000 (minimum) matching amount must be provided by individual researchers through other funding sources, such as external grants, departments/schools, and/or the allocated budgets of TRSM research centres/institutes. Researchers with additional funding may contribute more than the $30,000 (minimum) matching amount toward a postdoctoral researcher’s total compensation package (salary + benefits). See below for examples.

Examples:

  • Example 1: Suppose a researcher wants to hire a postdoc at a base salary of $75,000. Once the 18% benefits rate ($13,500) is factored in, the total compensation package comes to $88,500. This means the researcher will need to secure $58,500 from other funding source(s) to make the hire.

  • Example 2: Suppose a researcher wants to hire a postdoc at a base salary of $55,000. Once the 18% benefits rate ($9,900) is factored in, the total compensation package comes to $64,900. This means the researcher will need to secure $34,900 from other funding source(s) to make the hire.

Ineligible Expenses

  • General research operating costs unrelated to the postdoctoral position (e.g., equipment, travel, conferences).

3. Eligibility Criteria
