Call for Proposals
1. Grant Description
The TRSM Matching Funds Grant supports eligible faculty who hold existing funding for a research-related activity and require a modest top-up to carry it out. Matching funds may support activities including but not limited to: organizing a conference, seminar, or research event; data collection or analysis for an ongoing research project; and covering travel expenses for invited speaker arrangements.
Priority is given to faculty members who do not hold tri-agency or other external funding during the grant period, to ensure TRSM resources support the broadest possible community of researchers.
2. Funding Amount & Eligible Expenses
Eligible Expenses
- Conference, seminar, or research event organization costs.
- Data collection or analysis costs for an ongoing project.
- Travel support for invited speaker arrangements.
- Other costs directly related to the proposed activity, subject to ADR approval.
All expenses must conform to TMU's financial policies and procedures.
Ineligible Expenses
- General overhead or operating costs not tied to a specific research activity.
- Expenses for activities that are fully funded from another source.
3. Eligibility Criteria
Who Can Apply
- Full-time Tenured and Tenure-Track (TFA) TRSM faculty members.
- Faculty are eligible to receive one Matching Funds grant per year — specifically, only once in any three consecutive application cycles.
- Priority is given to applicants who do not hold tri-agency funds or other external funds during the grant period.
Who Cannot Apply
- Any TRSM Tenured and Tenure-Track (TFA) faculty member who has received a Matching Funds Grant in either of the two most recent consecutive cycles.
4. Important Dates
- Call for Proposals Announced: February 1, 2025
- Application Deadline: Ongoing — applications accepted on a continuous basis
- ADR Review: 1–5 business days after submission
- Results: 5 business days after submission
- Grant Effective Date: 55 business days after submission
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed until all required materials are received.

Required Information
- Description of the activity or project to be funded (what, when, and why this activity requires matching support).
- Amount of existing funding already secured and its source.
- Itemized budget showing how the requested $1,000 will be used.
- Expected outcome or benefit of the activity to your research program.
6. Evaluation & Review Process
Applications are assessed at the discretion of the Associate Dean, Research. There is no formal adjudication committee for this grant. Preference is given to applicants who have not previously received support from this program.
Evaluation Criteria
- Significance of the activity: Does the proposed use of funds have clear and meaningful research value?
- Likelihood of success: Is the activity realistic and well-planned?
- Justification of need: Is matching support genuinely required to carry out the activity?
7. Expected Deliverables & Reporting
Deliverables
Suggested text (please verify): No formal deliverables are specified for this grant. However, recipients are expected to use the funds for the activity described in their application.
Reporting
Suggested text (please verify): Recipients should submit a brief completion report (1 page or less) to [email protected] within 30 days of completing the funded activity. The report should summarize what took place, how funds were used, and any research outcomes.
8. Policies & Compliance
- All expenses must conform to TMU's financial policies and procedures.
- Unused funds cannot be carried over to a future cycle.
- Recipients are expected to retain receipts and financial documentation in accordance with TMU audit requirements.
